Starz FilmCenter to host GForce and their short film on July 11

The Denver Film Society is proud to announce that the new Cinema Q film Holding Trevor will be preceded by a new short film about GForce, the national gay all-star ice hockey team, during its run at the Starz FilmCenter.

On Friday, July 11 join the GForce for a special celebration of the film from 6:00pm to 6:45pm prior to the Premiere of the short before the 7:30pm showing of Holding Trevor at the Starz FilmCenter (9th & Auraria across from the Pepsi Center). Food & drink will be provided by GForce.

The seven-minute film was recorded over several days in January 2008 in Aspen, Colo. and takes a look inside the locker room as the players share their stories and prepare for an annual game against an all-star straight hockey team. The filmmakers also traveled to Aspen to record people's reactions to a gay hockey team as the players attempted to recruit spectators for the game.

The film was directed by Bob King and produced by Drew Lesser. Lesser has produced several reality shows for television and is best known for producing the show Bridezillas shown on the WE television network.

"The film is amazing," said GForce President Glenn Witman. "It has really captured the essence of GForce and our mission."

HOLDING TREVOR
From Regent Releasing
Directed by Rosser Goodman
(USA, 2007, Digital, 88min)

Trevor Holden has just witnessed his boyfriend Darrell overdose on heroin--again. And as his oldest friend, Trevor feels a responsibility to help Darrell in his latest attempt at sobriety, much to the dismay of his own best friends Jake and Andie. But, when Darrell starts using again Trevor is finally ready to call it quits. And just when he does, he meets the ever so charming Ephram. As Trevor's relationship with Ephram quickly progresses, it starts to put a strain on his friendships with Jake and Andie.

Jake, the self-proclaimed sex-addict, is starting to worry a little bit about his past catching up with him, namely in the form of HIV. And Andie, who drunkenly ends her sexual dry spell with a one-night stand, realizes that Jake might have less to worry about than she does.

What starts out as Trevor's own personal existential journey, turns into a path that will lead everyone to what is most important: themselves.

Holding Trevor is continually poignant, relentlessly self-deprecating, and just the type of cerebral dark comedy that can speak directly to the twenty-somethings of today while letting other generations in on the joke.
